The Saarinen Foundation includes a significant educational component to it. The Foundation will create and market a college level Architecture Study Course/Guide to accompany the film - we will market this Eliel Saarinen Architecture Course to universities globally. It is our hope that the revenue generated by the sale of the college course material will eventually be sufficient to fund an Eliel Saarinen Scholarship for an architecture student(s). We will be looking to hire a prominent Architecture Academic to author this Eliel Saarinen Study Guide.
A significant part of the Eliel Saarinen Architecture Course Study Guide will be the inclusion of Virtual Reality (VR) video content of all the buildings covered in the documentary. This will allow students to virtually stand inside the Helsinki Train Station, or any other structure covered in the documentary, and observe structural detail as if they were standing right there.
We will to propose that Cranbrook assist us in curating an annual “Eliel Saarinen Student Design Competition”. The competition would be open to High School, Undergrad and Grad student levels, that will feature a Cash Prize for students at all entry levels. We ask that Cranbrook, through their Museum, select the annual judges and supervise this competition in Eliel’s name. We would also be seeking a Title Sponsor for this annual Eliel Saarinen student Design Competition. Due to the lack of art program funding today in high schools, we will explore the re-purposing of our Study Guide VR content to craft an “Intro To Design” program for students, exposing them to career possibilities within Architecture, Art and Design disciplines.
